Already in the election campaign, the top candidates ignored climate policy issues as best they could. Now the Bundestag has been elected and even if the government is not yet in place, it can be assumed that Friedrich Merz will lead it. This would govern a man who considers the issue of climate protection to be overvalued and an exit from coal and gas energy to be unrealistic.
In the World Economy Compass, Nora Noll talks to three speakers from PowerShift: With Alessa Hartmann from the Trade and Investment Policy team, the focus is on smoldering trade conflicts and how the new federal government should position itself in the global economy. Constantin Bittner from the Raw Materials Team and Coordinator of the AK Rohstoff elaborates on the CDU's plans for domestic mining and Neelke Wagner, speaker for climate and resource justice, finally explains why a CDU-led coalition should also strive for a raw materials and energy transition – and what this might look like.
