Group vs State: ISDS and the Risk of Global Injustice
The Investor State Dispute Settlements (ISDS) system allows corporations and investors to sue states for billions of dollars in compensation - for example, when governments tighten environmental regulations or stop controversial mining projects. A new ranking by PowerShift now shows how few European countries, especially Germany, are doing against these ISDS lawsuits. The lawsuits not only undermine important environmental and climate policies, they also directly harm people who want to protect their livelihoods. This is reported by local activists from Latin America.
