How sustainable will the new European Battery Regulation be?

On 20 April, the trilogue between the European Commission, the European Parliament and EU member states begins via a new battery regulation. The EU's goal is to make batteries sustainable throughout their entire life cycle. The regulation is intended to provide binding standards with regard to: This includes due diligence, collection rates and recycling. Future batteries should also meet certain minimum requirements with regard to their repairability and durability. In our current podcast episode, we look at the policy debate around the regulation: What are the demands of industry, civil society and politics? And why is even the European battery industry pushing for more regulation?
