25 years ago, the EU concluded the first trade agreement with a Latin American country: With Mexico. In the meantime, the European Union has concluded trade agreements with almost all Latin American countries or is seeking their rapid ratification, as in the case of the EU-Mercosur trade agreement. Bettina Müller, Head of Trade and Investment Policy at PowerShift, has examined the various agreements and draws a sobering conclusion. Prosperity, economic growth, good jobs and environmental protection? Misrepresentation. These are empty words used to justify trade structures that primarily serve export-oriented companies.
