We all know the pictures of the burning rainforest and bulldozers rolling over 100-year-old trees. The Amazon is being deforested, still. And soon a tipping point could be reached. The destruction of the world's largest rainforest not only threatens animals and humans, it also contributes massively to climate change. Ten percent of global greenhouse gas emissions come from the extraction and processing of primary metals. PowerShift has summarized this and more in a background paper on climate and raw materials. Nora Noll talks about the connections with Constantin Bittner, consultant for raw materials policy at PowerShift and coordinator of the AK Raw Materials network.
