After the reform – how to proceed with the Energy Charter Treaty

# 31

For 1.4 billion euros in damages, the German energy group RWE has sued the Netherlands for its coal phase-out by 2030. Such lawsuits are possible through the Energy Charter Treaty, an international investment protection agreement and a sharp tool of the fossil lobby against effective climate policy. This is another reason why the Treaty should be modernised. In our latest podcast episode, we talk about the reform negotiations that ended in Brussels at the end of June and how the Energy Charter Treaty is now proceeding.
