Podcast No. 23 – Climate impacts of the hunger for raw materials – how the mining of metals is driving the climate crisis

# 23

E-cars, digitalization and technological progress are often at the heart of the debates about a climate-neutral future economy. However, solutions that rely only on technologies usually increase the need for metallic raw materials. This has consequences not only for global justice, but also for our climate goals, because mining and further processing are CO2-intensive. Without a turnaround in raw materials, there can therefore be no effective climate protection. We talk to Michael Reckordt about the climate impact of our hunger for raw materials. In addition, we talk to Lena from AG Klimascheinlösungen about what distinguishes climate-friendly solutions from sham solutions.
