Steel is everywhere: in wind turbines, railway lines, electric cars, buildings or hydrogen pipelines. As a basic raw material for the energy transition, it can hardly be replaced. However, the steel industry is also one of the most energy-intensive sectors and the largest industrial CO2 polluters in the world. A fundamental change in the steel industry is needed. What can hydrogen contribute to this?
