The climate impact of the EU trade agreement with Colombia, Peru and Ecuador

The trade agreement between the EU and the Andean countries of Colombia, Peru and Ecuador was promoted as a tool for sustainable development and the protection of environmental and social standards. But our new study shows a different picture: In particular, the agreement promotes trade in climate-damaging products without effective safeguards.

PowerShift's analysis highlights the impact of the agreement on trade and climate, particularly on commodities such as gold, coal and copper, as well as agricultural products such as avocados, palm oil and shrimp. The conclusion: Instead of promoting sustainable development, the agreement promotes environmental degradation and human rights violations.

We will present the results of the study in a public webinar – details coming soon!
