Elon Musk will soon build 500,000 electric cars in Brandenburg. His vision of the mobility of the future includes: Cars, cars, cars. I talk to Peter Fuchs about why replacing the drive is not a sufficient traffic turnaround: The raw material and energy requirements of large electric cars are high. And like cars with combustion engines, electric cars take up a lot of space in cities. Space that is lacking for sustainable infrastructure such as the expansion of public transport or cycle paths. The conclusion: We need a quick exit from the internal combustion engine. But promoting the mass production of e-cars with hundreds of millions of euros is not a sensible alternative. Instead, the number of cars would have to be reduced and public transport, as well as foot and bicycle traffic would have to be expanded.
The fact sheet mentioned in the podcast will be published shortly.
