Position paper: Heat transition in Berlin – fair and ecological

Smoking chimneys from Kraftwerk

Almost half of Berlin's CO2 emissions are generated by heating. But by 2035, the whole of Berlin could be warm in winter without polluting the climate, and without rising natural gas prices that many people can no longer pay! How to do that, she has “Potential study on climate-neutral heat supply Berlin 2035” the Fraunhofer Institute for Energy Economics and Energy System Technology IEE.

Now we have the chance to convert Berlin to climate-friendly heating. After all, the Berlin Senate is buying back Vattenfall's district heating network. The network thus comes back into public hands and thus under democratic control. But in order for the Senate to further develop the district heating network in the interests of citizens and the climate, we must take action. Unfortunately, the previously known plans show that this is not yet the case.
