The Federal Government guarantees in Guinea for the expansion of a mine for a million loan with 250 million euros. 13 villages are affected by the negative effects of this mine: Hundreds of people are being resettled and are losing fertile land. Three rivers that supplied water to an adjacent village have dried up as a result of bauxite mining. Agriculture is so impossible. The compensation is too low and does not allow for own income. The German government issued its loan guarantee even though it knew early on about the human rights consequences of mining. In 2018, 92 percent of Germany's bauxite imports came from Guinea. The bauxite from Guinea ends up in Germany as aluminum in cars.
