Oil and gas producers and other polluting companies want us to believe that hydrogen automatically ensures sustainability. But behind closed doors, they have done a lot of lobbying to falsify the emission calculation models in such a way that hydrogen from fossil gas can be described as ‘clean’. The relevant rules are about to be published.
PowerShift e.V. has published the report “Gateway for dirty hydrogen: The EU Clean Industry Deal in Action" by the research organisation Corporate Europe Observatory translates into German, which reveals how industrial actors have diluted a legal act of the EU Commission that should actually contribute to climate protection. If this greenwashing is successful, which it unfortunately looks like, the new regulation will cement our dependence on fossil fuels for decades – including all the bad consequences for the climate and the environment.
