The impact of the EU Association Agreement with Mercosur on people and the environment
At the end of June, EU and Mercosur negotiators announced a political agreement that would herald the early end of the negotiations on the EU-Mercosur Association Agreement. Both sides celebrated this as a ‘historic moment’, as it is the largest agreement negotiated so far by the EU, but also by Mercosur. But soon the images of the burning Amazon in Brazil replaced the positive voices and criticism became loud. Nevertheless, the EU Commission is sticking to its timetable and the agreement has already been given for legal scrubbing.

It clarifies the ratification process and once again clarifies why it is important that we position ourselves clearly against trade agreements during times of climate crisis that only benefit the large agricultural and car companies, but not people and the environment.
