Regulatory cooperation in CETA

Danger to the environment and consumers?

Regulatory cooperation is an important part of the EU's new free trade agreements. It is enshrined, among other things, in the Comprehensive Economic and Trade Agreement (CETA) between Canada and the EU and plays a central role in the negotiations on a new EU-US trade agreement, which started at the beginning of 2019.

So far, regulatory cooperation agreements have been more of a side issue in the public debate – wrongly, because regulatory cooperation can pose a relevant threat to environmental protection, labour rights, and health standards.

PowerShift has been working on trade agreements and investment protection for many years. Take a look at our other publications on CETA.
