Open letter on the EU-Mercosur agreement

Shortly before the start of the EU Council Presidency and on the anniversary of the political agreement of the EU-Mercosur Agreement, 60 organisations of the German and 265 civil society organisations from the EU and Mercosur publish an open letter calling for a halt to negotiations:

Time to rethink - Stop the EU-Mercosur agreement!

Negotiations between the EU and Mercosur (Brazil, Argentina, Paraguay and Uruguay) have been ongoing for 20 years. A political agreement was reached last June. Since then, work has been carried out on the drafting of a contract that is ready for signature. However, the majority of citizens reject the agreement.
The parliaments of the EU member states France, Belgium, Ireland and the Netherlands have expressed clear criticism, the Austrian government does not want to sign the agreement in its current form. Because hardly any agreement is as committed to the thinking and political action of the past as the EU-Mercosur agreement.

What the EU-Mercosur agreement stands for and why we criticise it, read on in the open letter when you click on the green box below.
