Berliner "Autorunde" publishes new position paper
Since the beginning of 2019, PowerShift has been coordinating the "Autorunde" as a new network of environmental and mobility policy initiatives in Berlin. At the heart of our common demands is the vision of a climate-friendly and livable city. Not car traffic, but the needs of people should determine the use of public space. We are building on the Mobility Act passed by the state of Berlin and want to further develop the traffic turnaround in Berlin. The mobility law writes for the first time Priority is given to walking, cycling and public transport. To this end, the currently completely preferred mode of transport ‘car’ must be reduced.. The dominance of car traffic not only reduces air quality, safety and quality of life, but also occupies public space and makes it less usable and unattractive for non-drivers. Berlin needs to “liberate” itself from the car as a private car – and redistribute the public space.
Our measure of success: The halving of the number of cars in Berlin every 10 years and thus the creation of new mobility and living spaces for the people of this city.
