Position paper: Berlin parking policy for climate protection and a livable city

The Alliance's New Position Paper Berlin streets for everyone It's here!

We Berliners want a livable city where sustainable, equitable mobility is possible for everyone! We need a far-reaching mobility transition – and the necessary space in public space! So far, much too much of the public space has been used for (mostly free) parking of private cars, i.e. privatized. We want to drastically reduce the flowing and stationary motorized private transport (MIV). Our measure of success for the mobility transition is halving the number of cars by 2030.

  • The most important measure for this is the conversion of 60,000 public parking spaces per year. The area obtained can be used for other purposes: Pathways for the environmental network, urban greenery, play and recreation areas!
  • For the remaining parking spaces, we call for comprehensive parking management, including a significant increase in the fees for resident parking permits.
