Effects of corporate lawsuits on raw materials and environmental policy
PowerShift, together with the Environment and Development Forum, Campact, BUND, AbL and attac, has published a new case study in which we investigate the impact of corporate lawsuits on environmental legislation. The so-called ISDS (Investor State Dispute Settlement) system gives investors far-reaching special rights and gives them access to parallel justice to enforce their interests. International corporations have used this tool to threaten claims for damages of up to several billion euros if governments have acted against their interests. The fact that this applies above all to the environmental sector is made clear in our study, in which we also outline various lawsuits as examples.
