No Sustainable Trade without Strong Labour Rights – A Critical Analysis of the Sustainability Chapter in the EU-Indonesia Agreement”
The Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement (CEPA) between the EU and Indonesia is a broad trade agreement designed to strengthen economic ties between the European Union and Indonesia. It includes a dedicated sustainability chapter, which aims to integrate social, labour, and environmental standards, including adherence to key ILO conventions and commitments under the Paris Climate Agreement. While the agreement seeks to combine economic growth with social and environmental responsibility, the study notes significant gaps in the enforceability and effectiveness of these sustainability provisions.
PowerShift’s International Trade Policy Advisor Alessa Hartmann Will present the findings of the study. Monika Feigl-Heihs from Vienna Chamber of Commerce Will comment on the findings of the study from a trade union perspective.
