Michael Reckordt

Michael Reckordt coordinates PowerShift's Raw Materials Policy division. He is one of the prominent voices of civil society raw materials policy in Germany and has been working for many years on the global effects of raw materials mining as well as on political strategies for a social-ecological raw materials transition.

His work combines three central priorities: First, it analyses supply chains and mining conditions of key raw materials for the energy and mobility transition, in particular in the area of battery metals and industrial transformation. Secondly, he develops policy concepts to reduce the consumption of raw materials through a circular economy, resource insufficiency and a socially just mobility transition. Thirdly, he critically accompanies European and German raw materials policy, for example on questions of supply chain laws, mining standards and strategic raw materials partnerships.

A special focus of his work is on the human rights and ecological consequences of the extraction of raw materials in the Global South. He is committed to binding corporate responsibility, transparent supply chains and a reduction in global resource consumption.

Michael Reckordt is a regular contact person for media, politics and civil society on questions of raw materials, battery and supply chain policy. He publishes analyses and background papers on European raw material strategies, critical metals and the global challenges of industrial transformation.
