Deep-sea mining: Not needed, not wanted, not allowed!

Resistance to deep-sea mining in the Pacific and Germany

More and more companies are planning to harvest raw materials from the seabed. This is despite the fact that deep-sea mining is expected to damage or permanently destroy sensitive marine ecosystems. Although there are loud voices from the Pacific that speak out against deep-sea mining, they are hardly taken into account in political decisions (in countries such as Germany but also in Oceania itself). Now is the time to listen to those voices. For this purpose, we conducted interviews with civil society actors from Tonga, the Cook Islands and New Zealand.

Our FactSheet provides an insight into the perspectives of these civil society actors.
