The “Green Transition” and its Costs for the Balkans

Mai 6 @ 19:30 - 21:00

Resisting Authoritarian Extractivism in Bosnia-Herzegovina and Serbia

The EU's transition to a green economy relies on raw materials such as lithium, crucial for the automobile industry. These resources are often sourced from peripheral regions, including post-Yugoslav countries, where mining projects threaten forests, water sources, and local livelihoods. Across the Balkans, resistance to extractivist industries is mounting. To explore these dynamics, we will screen the documentary Flotacija about a mining region in Eastern Serbia, followed by panel discussions featuring activists and experts from Serbia and Bosnia-Herzegovina. The events will take place in Kassel, Berlin, and Frankfurt.
