On the occasion of the International Day of Peasant Resistance on 17 April, the Working Group on Peasant Agriculture, Amig@s do MST, the Research and Documentation Center Chile-Latin America, FIAN Germany, INKOTA Network, the Network of Just World Trade and PowerShift, are in solidarity with small and medium-sized farmers, agricultural workers and indigenous communities worldwide. Today, at a rally in front of the Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Climate Protection in Berlin, they used tractors, signs and banners to call for a trade policy based on principles of solidarity, human rights and the protection of the environment and climate.<\/p>\n
Negotiations on the EU-Mercosur agreement are currently picking up speed. But free trade agreements such as the EU-Mercosur agreement are based on the outdated growth paradigm, which forces farmers worldwide into industrial mass production. The rights of farmers to land, seeds and a fair income enshrined in the UN Declaration (UNDROP) are ignored in these agreements and instead benefit mainly international agricultural corporations. The Alliance therefore calls on the Federal Government to immediately withdraw from free trade and to make a clear commitment to the rights of farmers in Germany, in Europe and internationally \u2013 and thus to stop the EU-Mercosur trade agreement and other agreements with Chile and Mexico.<\/p>\n
