However, in its current form, the agreement carries even more risks for the environment and human rights compared to earlier drafts, which were already highly problematic.<\/p>\n<h3 data-start=\"521\" data-end=\"600\">New lawsuit against green deal laws weakens democratic regulation<\/h3>\n<p data-start=\"602\" data-end=\"1006\">Particularly explosive: The agreement creates a novel right of action or compensation mechanism that can effectively put pressure on EU sustainability laws under the European Green Deal \u2013 for example, when environmental rules limit trade benefits. This undermines the state's enforcement of environmental and social standards and can slow down urgently needed protective laws.<\/p>\n<h3 data-start=\"1008\" data-end=\"1107\">Study of PowerShift, Misereor and Bread for the World: Risks to Climate, Rights and Development<\/h3>\n<p data-start=\"1109\" data-end=\"1273\">The new joint study by PowerShift, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.misereor.de\">Misereor<\/a> and<a href=\"https:\/\/www.brot-fuer-die-welt.de\/\"> Bread for the World<\/a> explains why the agreement in its current form is considered to be out of date. It analyses:<\/p>\n<ul data-start=\"1275\" data-end=\"1516\">\n<li data-start=\"1275\" data-end=\"1320\">\n<p data-start=\"1277\" data-end=\"1320\">Risks for climate, forest and species protection<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li data-start=\"1321\" data-end=\"1368\">\n<p data-start=\"1323\" data-end=\"1368\">Consequences for human rights and land conflicts<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li data-start=\"1369\" data-end=\"1449\">\n<p data-start=\"1371\" data-end=\"1449\">Negative effects on economic development in Mercosur countries<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li data-start=\"1450\" data-end=\"1516\">\n<p data-start=\"1452\" data-end=\"1516\">Serious impact of tariff cuts and deregulation<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p data-start=\"1518\" data-end=\"1654\">The study therefore explicitly warns against ratification of the Treaty as it stands.<\/p>\n<h3 data-start=\"1656\" data-end=\"1738\">Call for Policy: Do not sign contract text, secure protection standards<\/h3>\n<p data-start=\"1740\" data-end=\"2108\" data-is-last-node=\"\" data-is-only-node=\"\">From the point of view of the issuing organisations, trade policy is needed that protects human rights in a binding manner, strengthens environmental standards and preserves democratic room for manoeuvre.
