A few days earlier, the Indonesian governments imposed an export ban on bauxite in order to process the raw material more intensively in their own country in the future. Thus Ecuador and Indonesia join a list of many countries for which the wealth of raw materials is more like a commodity curse and the population and governments speak out against the (pure) export of raw materials. Increasing local added value, conserving water sources or fear of radioactive contamination, the reasons for the respective measures are manifold.
