Nevertheless, states are currently negotiating rules on the extraction of mineral raw materials from the deep sea floor. Deep-sea mining will inevitably lead to species extinction and an additional burden on the already highly endangered seas. In particular, coastal inhabitants in the Pacific are exposed to another, dangerous, dirty and inadequately regulated mining sector through deep-sea mining. Instead of more mining, we need a turnaround in raw materials and strong rules to protect the seas and all those who live by and with the sea.<\/p>\n<p>This publication presents 13 arguments against deep-sea mining and alternatives for a raw material transition.<\/p>\n<p>1 We know almost nothing about the deep sea. Just that she's full of life<br \/>\n2 The seas are already in multiple crises<br \/>\n3 Deep-sea mining will irretrievably destroy the marine environment<br \/>\n4 Deep-sea mining does not serve climate protection. Instead of more and more mining, we need a turnaround in raw materials<br \/>\n5 It is undemocratic for the International Seabed Authority to promote deep-sea mining<br \/>\n6 The raw materials of the deep sea are the common heritage of humanity.
