Protest against the EU-Mercosur agreement – “Toxic Trade Tour” with stops in 11 EU cities

Pesticide use in Latin America

Berlin, 22.10.: With a toxic trade tour, more than 45 civil society organisations from Latin America and the EU want to draw attention to the upcoming ratification of the EU-Mercosur trade agreement.

On October 27, 2025, the Toxic Trade Tour starts in Vienna, Austria. This marks the beginning of the one-month journey of a transporter loaded with poisonous barrels, through which the social-ecological and health effects of the agreement are discussed.

Further stations are Budapest, Warsaw, Munich (30.10.), Berlin (3.11.), Dublin, Madrid, Lisbon and others. On 24 November, the Toxic Trade Tour will reach its final destination in Brussels, just in time for the EU Council meeting of Trade Ministers.

Why now?

  • On 24 November, the EU Foreign Affairs Council could decide on the agreement.
  • A formal signing could take place on the 5th. It will be held at a summit in Brazil in December.
  • Shortly thereafter, the European Parliament could vote.

Why the Agreement is Toxic

The EU-Mercosur agreement would

  • Expanding trade in pesticides banned in the EU to Latin America
  • Re-importing these agrotoxins into Europe via contaminated food
  • Farmers on both sides of the Atlantic, harming workers and destroying biodiversity – while agribusinesses benefit
  • Undermining climate change, food sovereignty and social justice

Our appeal: Stop the toxic trade!

The Toxic Trade Tour calls on EU decision-makers to vote against the EU-Mercosur agreement. Yes to food sovereignty, climate justice and fair cooperation – No to trade in harmful products.
