PowerShift criticizes draft carbon dioxide storage law

Tomorrow, Thursday, 11 September, the Bundestag will discuss the draft law amending the Carbon Dioxide Storage Act (KSpG) for the first time.

Neelke Wagner, Climate and Resource Justice Officer at PowerShift, comments:

“The draft carbon dioxide storage law presented by the Federal Government is the opposite of climate protection. It forces the construction of a gigantic pipeline network across Germany, regardless of environmental protection standards or participation rights. For decades, it has not been possible to prove that the capture and final storage of carbon dioxide actually leads to less CO2 in the atmosphere. Far cheaper and more environmentally friendly solutions for the climate crisis have long existed, are tested and available. But the federal government is sacrificing them to keep fossil business models artificially alive.”
