Since the beginning of 2019, PowerShift has been coordinating "Berliner Straßen für Alle" as a new network of environmental and mobility policy initiatives in Berlin. At the heart of our common demands is the vision of a climate-friendly and livable city. It is not car traffic, but people's needs that determine the use of public space. You can read about how this can become a reality in our position paper.
We are building on the Mobility Act passed by the state of Berlin and want to further develop the transport transition. The Mobility Act for the first time the priority of walking, cycling and public transport. For this, the currently completely preferred mode of transport 'car' must be pushed back. The dominance of car traffic not only reduces air quality, safety and quality of life, but also captures public space and makes it less usable and unattractive for non-motorists. Berlin must "liberate" itself from the car as a private car - and redistribute public space.
Our standard of success: The halving of the number of cars in Berlin every 10 years and thus the creation of new mobility and living spaces for the people of this city.

Associations call for safe mobility during Corona: In order to ensure the mobility of people in Berlin even during the corona pandemic and to make it safe and as contagious as possible, the alliance ‘Berliner Straßen für alle’ calls for a Berlin-wide network of temporary cycling infrastructure, more space for foot traffic and 30 km/h on main roads.
There are 1.2 million cars in Berlin. Why car transport is at the heart of an unjust transport policy and what raw material problems it causes in countries in the Global South is shown in our short action video entitled ‘Tackling the turnaround in transport at last’.
We have recorded four short videos with actors of the Alliance “Berliner Straßen für alle” (Berlin Streets for All). Activists from Changing Cities, the ADFC, Greenpeace and PowerShift answer the question: Why does Berlin need more bike paths? What is the relationship between cars and raw materials? What are the advantages of playgrounds? What needs to happen to make Berlin's transport transition faster?
Under the following link you will find a podcast with voices about the traffic turnaround. We spoke with Cléo Mieulet from Extinction Rebellion Berlin, Christoph Keller from Parking Transform and Peter Fuchs from PowerShift / the alliance "Berliner Straßen für alle" about their ideas of fair mobility and their demands on Berlin politics.
